Holy Spirit Baptism

Derek Prince answers all questions about the Baptism and Tongues:

“Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?” Acts 19:2

  1. Who is the Baptizer?

    1. Jesus Christ himself is the baptizer in the Holy Ghost. John the Baptist, the Prophet who came in the power of Elijah to bring Israel to repentance, said “he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost. Matthew 3:11, Mark 1:18, Luke 3:16, John 1:33.

    2. When Jesus’ followers were water-baptizing new believers, Jesus didn’t participate. To men has been given the ordinance of water baptism unto repentance; when obeyed, the new believer is separated from their old life. There is spiritual power in water baptism because it is commanded. Water baptism is your personal Red Sea exit from Egypt, the world.

    3. The perfect Holy Ghost Baptism pattern: The pattern of Jesus’ baptism. You go down into the waters and die to your flesh, and come up out of the waters a new creation in Christ, and if fully repented, the Baptism of the Holy Ghost will come upon you and you will speak in tongues as you rise from the water when you have faith that this will occur. Many times in full water emersion, demons will be forced out of the person as the Holy Ghost fills up their vessel. Jesus went down into the water, and as he rose the Holy Spirit came upon him. He is our model. Tongues came later on the day of Pentecost because he was not yet crucified.

    4. You can receive salvation and the Holy Ghost Baptism without water baptism, but you must be water baptized, preferably a full immersion to please the Holy Spirit. He will make you aware that he is pleased. Many receive golden visions of the Lord when they are Holy Spirit Baptised, as I did. Since the mega church movement began, the pattern has been lost in the church, so you will hear differing opinions of error. Water baptism does not save, but it is a spiritual part of conversion, a cleansing of the human vessel in preparation for the infilling of God’s own Holy Spirit.

  2. What is it for?

    1. To write God’s Law on your heart so you can follow Jesus and turn from sin.

    2. To edify the born again spirit of man which is weak in its beginning.

    3. To empower the believer so they are able to imitate Christ even in miracles.

    4. To reveal the scriptures.

    5. To aid in prayer and intercession for us.

    6. So that we have Jehovah Shammah, the presence of God with us, closer than a brother, he is Immanuel, God with us.

    7. Most importantly, to sanctify our walk through life, to help us keep our feet off the path of the Destroyer, as King David said. To assist us in our personal responsibility to live in righteousness and to be made Holy.

    8. To Glorify Christ.

  3. Why do I need it?

    1. The Holy Spirit is the power of the Christian life. John 1:12

    2. Sanctification is the narrow way that leads to life that few find, and the Holy Spirit is the one who works inside you to renew your mind and to change your actions because you as a clay vessel cannot change yourself. Matthew 7, Romans 7, Ephesians 4

    3. The prayer language given as tongues edifies the inner man of the believer, rebukes demons and praises God. Acts 2:11, 10:46, 19:6, 1 Cor 4:5, 1 Cor 12:10, and more.

    4. It is the Holy Spirit who intercedes in prayer for you because you do not pray as you should. He is the Comforter, the Counselor, and the Helper that comes along side, the Paraclete. He is the very presence of God in your life. Romans 8, John 14, 15, 16.

    5. The Holy Spirit is the down payment of eternal life, the inner witness by which you know without doubt that you are saved and preserved. Romans 8

    6. The Holy Ghost is the revelator of scripture to help you understand that which you cannot understand in your flesh. It is his anointing that teaches John said. John 14, 1 John 2

    7. Jesus Christ defined a believer as one who speaks in tongues. Mark 16:17

  4. Where do I go to receive it?

    1. Traditionally, a Holy Spirit, tongue talking church. The Pastor will preach on the Holy Spirit so that believers may receive it.

    2. In water Baptism, as the believer rises as a new creation out of the water, as discussed above. This was the original tradition in the church, but has mostly been lost to time. However, God is bringing it back. In Dawsonville, GA a church there is baptizing in the Holy Ghost by water baptism and it has spread to places in Europe. The Pastor must believe for God to do it.

    3. By praying for the Holy Spirit Baptism as a part of repentance until it is received. Jesus said, you must ask for the Gift of the Father.

The first baptism in America was a student in a bible college in Kansas who prayed for it, and then in California, a black woman in a prayer group received, which sparked the Azusa outpouring.

I received the Baptism through prayer and a supernatural experience with Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, which was similar to the Baptism received by someone Kathryn Kuhlman told about who sang with the Spirit in the most wonderful voice.

  5. When am I eligible to receive it?

    1. Immediately upon salvation. And it can be received without water baptism.

    2. One caveat, as many who seek do not receive, only because they have not fully repented of sins unacceptable to the Spirit of God. It is for those who have obeyed the Gospel, Acts 5:32.

    3. And yes, you can receive the Baptism even if you have demons. Many Christians today are demonized because of false religious practices, idols, and the occult which they practice in private, such as consulting mediums or dabbling in witchcraft and drugs, sexual immorality. Because it is the power to become the sons and daughters of God and ultimately cast the demons out. Every prohibition in the Bible is to keep demons out of you.

As a gentile, the Spirit may suppress the demons as a mercy, and you may not realize you have any, but you need to make a choice of your sovereign will to repent of the sins that keep them tied to you, break the soul ties created through sexual immorality, and rid yourself of generational curses and familiar spirits attached to your bloodline. Ridding your life of these, is what overcoming is all about.

There is a lot of work to do after salvation by repentance and the Holy Spirit Baptism helps you to accomplish the will of God in your life, which is to sanctify you, to return you to holiness. Leviticus 11:45, 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4, Hebrews 12:14.

James said to be doers of the Word. You can only be a doer of the Word if you have the Holy Spirit Baptism. Repentance and prayer are parts of the lifestyle of doing the Crucified Life. Get it?

  6. How do I know I have received it?

    1. The only sign that you have received the Holy Spirit Baptism is that you will, in all cases speak in other tongues. Isaiah 28:11, Mark 16:17, Acts 2:4, Acts 19:6.

    2. If you do not speak in other tongues, you have not been Baptized in the Holy Spirit. Those who do not have it always argue that they have it because they said the sinners prayer, this is inaccurate. There is no instance in the Bible where the Holy Spirit Baptism is given that they do not speak in other tongues.

    3. When attempting to receive, you start it, and he finishes it. A simple way to start is to begin to say the ABCs, and once your mouth is activated, he will take over. You receive by faith, but you must yield by starting to move your mouth. In some cases the tongues can be very strong and the whole body may shake and the tongues will roll for hours. Everyone is different. Some receive golden visions.
